1984 Wayne Gretzky 900th Point ticket stub vs Nordiques

Winning bid: $22.50

Huge oddity in an NHL game.  Not positive this has never happened other than this one time, but here it is…

A player took a penalty in overtime of a regular season game (only 5 minutes long) and then also scored the game winning goal in overtime after serving his complete penalty.  I thought that was strange enough but then add this.  The player also tied the game to send it to overtime with a goal late in the 3rd period.  And that goal was a shorthanded goal.  And the player was a defenseman as well.  That has to be really rare?  But then add another item.  That the player was a Hall of Famer.
The player was Paul Coffey.  He scored 2 goals in the game at Quebec.  He wasn’t the only Hall of Fame goal scorer.  Wayne Greztky, Jari Kurri, and Peter Stastny also scored goals in the game as Edmonton beat Quebec 6-5 in overtime.  There was so much scoring even Dave Semenko scored a goal.
Gretzky recorded his 900th career NHL point with an assist on Coffey’s game winner.  He did it in only his 385th NHL game, which was by far a record for the fastest.
Coffey, in addition to his 2 goals, also recorded 3 assists.
