The 2002 U.S. Open was played on the Black Course at Bethpage State Park in New York. Bethpage Black was the first municipal golf course ever to host a U.S. Open.

Tiger Woods won his second U.S. Open title in 2002, and the eighth major of his career.
Woods finished ahead of a leaderboard that included Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia and Nick Faldo in the Top 5, but none of those stars seriously threatened Woods' victory. Woods won wire-to-wire, just as he did in his first U.S. Open win in 2000.
